Our approach to sustainability and its potential impacts on the environment start upon site selection.

When it comes to purpose-built sites, we embrace technology and adopt new practices to assist in sustainability from the ground up.

We adopt or exceed minimum environmental protection standards during construction projects to prevent pollution waste and impact and engineer buildings to use passive (non-mechanical) ventilation a much as possible.

We select materials with long term environmental impacts in mind. For example, investing in insulation to reduce electricity consumption is a practical approach we adopt.

We work proactively with local government and community stakeholders to ensure our projects have a minimum practical impact.

2. Adaptive Re-use of buildings

We have over a decade of experience in property refurbishment and renewal through the modification of existing buildings. This not only reduces the need for new construction but also breathes new life into underutilised spaces, enabling us to extend the economic life of buildings through our design and development expertise.

3. Embracing Energy Efficiency

LED Lighting
By upgrading to energy efficient LED lighting and motion sensor systems, we’re minimising wastage and conserving resources.  We also install timer switches to lights where possible.

Solar Power
Roomia Self storage facilities have ample rooftop space, making them ideal for harnessing solar power with excess energy generated during non-peak hours being fed back into the grid, contributing to the overall sustainability of the local community.

Glazing
Roomia is able to maximise natural daylight whilst minimising energy consumption through high performance window glazing, offering superior insulation, reducing the need for artificial lighting and minimising heat transfer.

These changes also help to keep our costs down which we can pass on to our valued customers.

4. Waste management, Recycling & Paper Use Reduction

When it comes to waste management, we’re passionate about recycling and paper use reduction.  We provide convenient recycling bins for you to dispose of your recyclable items responsibly.

To reduce paper use for invoices we prefer customers adopt the automatic rental payment option or email invoices.

5. Water Conservation

Our new developments utilise on site retention / detention systems or natural swales to minimise excessive water flow impacts off our properties. Incorporated into these systems is a seires of filtration pods to ensure all harmful pollutants are captured before entering council infrastructure.

Rainwater tanks are being installed in new developments for use on gardens and cleaning. Tanks are also to be installed in existing sites where space may permit.

Additionally, water saving fixtures such as low-flow toilets and taps help reduce water consumption.

6. Landscaping

We deliberately include landscaping into our properties to maximise the soft surface areas and help maintain vegetation areas. This also has the effect of improving our built-up areas. By choosing native plants for landscape, Roomia facilities reduce the need for excessive watering, fertilisers and pesticides.
